Cluster PEACE Cross-Calibration
Available WHISPER events

[For 2001-2003 Plasmasheet events click here, and 2002 Sheath events click here.]

Below is a table listing the events that are being used for cross-calibration studies of the PEACE data with WHISPER.  The additional datasets are used in the calibration routines to imporve the PEACE moments.  Ultimately events covering all energy ranges will be identified to provide and overall picture of the Energy Response Curve for the PEACE instrument, and will be used to calibrate all data to a high degree of accuracy.

The events below are constrained by:
The red entries indicate that more recent data has been received from the WHI team, and these are used in the calibration study.

Key for abbreviations:

Regions:

These are the regions observed by PEACE during the orbit:

SW = solar wind
MS = magnetosheath
MP = magnetopause

AZ = cusp or auroral zone
PS = plasmasheet

Mode:

This will give you a clue as to what data products to expect (more 3D data in BM):

NM = Normal mode
Generally 3DR data which is not returned every spin from every spacecraft.
Can generate a '3DX-like' product called '3DFXR' which is being tested.

BM = Burst mode
          Generally 3DX family of products, e.g. 3DX1P, 3DX2P etc

PEACE MCP Gain:

GOOD = "good" gain (>=1e6 electrons)
BAD = "bad" gain (<1e6 electrons)
OK = around 1e6 electrons

SC Sep:

The inter-spacecraft separation.  Initially we are investigating close separation events as these allow

 N.B. Gain curves vary for each sensor – this column gives an overview – check the curves!
