Abstract

The polarized cyclotron emission from Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables (MCVs) has been modelled by several authors in the past few years. These model solutions were obtained by a trial and error approach from the intensity and polarization data, to infer the shape of the accretion region. The next stage in this process requires a more objective and analytical approach.

We present a method for mapping the accretion region on the surface of the white dwarf using modified Tikhonov regularisation and a combination of the Powells method and a Genetic Algorithm for optimising the model fits.
