Title Pulsars, fast radio bursts, and the Square Kilometre Array Abstract Pulsars constitute one of the key science targets of the Square Kilometre Array, a next generation radio telescope currently being designed and built in South Africa and Western Australia. In this talk, after a brief introduction on radio pulsars, I will talk about interesting results in the area of pulsar astronomy from the last decade. I will show how advances in observing techniques lead to new discoveries and how pulsars have taught us how to search for other exotic transient phenomena such as the newly discovered fast radio bursts. Finally, I will talk about the technical challenges we are faced with in order to realize the SKA goals, and show early results from our efforts to overcome the obstacles.
