Gamma-Ray Burst Journal ClubSince January 2004 the MSSL Astrophysics group has held weekly informal meetings, whose main goal is learning or updating the knowledge of the group about those mysterious astronomical events called Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). During these meetings students and staff give short presentations by reviewing one or more articles related to research on GRBs, or discussing a particular aspect of GRB science. The purpose of these talks is to familiarise members of the group with recent important results, and to form an important component of student training through the development of presentation skills. The current schedule is given below, and meetings are held either in the Library or Ariel House at 11am on Wednesdays, unless otherwise specified by the speaker.
Swift/GRB discussion meetingsAs of 14th Febrary 2005 the journal clubs are being replaced with weekly Swift/GRB discussion meetings. We currently have a block booking of rooms:
Wednesdays 11.00 - 12.00 in the Library, until 31st August 2005. Three exceptions; the 9th March, 29th June and 10th August meetings will be in Ariel House.
