Recent progress All institutes are engaged in the development of system interfaces. MSSL is investigating the impact of having two CCDs cameras and electronics to match. Construction work has begun on power supply prototypes (printed circuits have been ordered). NRL are developing the Optical layouts and designs. We need to ensure that there is sufficient space for the accommodation of the necessary mechanisms. Birmingham are doing some structural development, although their progress is dependent on the NRL studies. BU have sent for a sample of carbon composite material in the presence of a multi-layer witness mirror. Regular weekly teleconferences with NRL have been established. There are slightly less regular meetings of the in house system design team, and there is a need to fold in BU and RAL to these meetings. Where available, minutes of both these meetings are published on the consortium website. Requirements lists are beginning to be formed for all subsystems. The project costs, and staffing should be reviewed. An updated cost profile is required for the PPARC steering committee. Future meetings Engineering meeting NRL 18th May-discuss physical accommodation issues, particularly in the spectrometer section. Steering committee 27th May Consortium Meeting BU 15th June-expose all Science and technical issues. (Next PRM, 24th May)
