EIT data are generally stored in FITS files and users are expected to install and use the SolarSoftware (SSW) tree to manipulate EIT data. This guide assumes that the user has access to the SSW tree.
The SSW tree is a collection of programs to be run using IDL. Manipulating EIT data is extremely difficult without IDL and the SolarSoft tree, because in addition to a large number of data routines, a lot of information is stored on-line as well, such as flat-fields and calibration information.
Once you have a current version of IDL running, you should install the SolarSoftware, including the EIT software set. The EIT software installation page has been designed so that it is easy and quick to use: you should have a functional software tree if you complete each of the steps.
