Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack update

Service packs are the means by which Windows NT product updates are distributed. Service packs keep the product current, and extend and update your computer's functionality. Service packs include updates, system administration tools, drivers, and additional components. All are conveniently bundled for easy downloading. Service packs are cumulative -- each new service pack contains all the fixes in previous service packs, as well as any new fixes. You do not need to install a previous service pack before you install the latest one.

Determine if you need a service pack update:

1.)    Click "Start" in the lower left hand corner of  your screen.
2.)    Click "Programs".
3.)    Click "Administrative Tools (common)".
4.)    Click "Windows NT Diagnostics".  A "Windows NT Diagnostics" panel will appear.
5.)    Click the panel tab labeled "Version".  The version and service pack numbers are displayed.

How to update to the latest service pack version (Internet Explorer 3.02 or later required):

1.)    Upgrading Internet Explorer is recommended (though not required) before continuing to the next step.
2.)    Go to the following URL:    Windows NT 4.0 Server Downloads.
3.)    Under the heading "Windows Update" click on "Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack...".
4.)    Click the grey "Download" button.
5.)    If a "Security Information" panel appears, click "Continue".
6.)    Click the grey button labeled "High Encryption Version".
7.)    Again, a grey "Security Information" may appear.  If so click "Continue".
8.)    If your PC is not on a network choose "Express Download".  Save the file to your Desktop.
9.)    If your PC is connected to a network choose "Network Download".  Save the file to your Desktop.
10.)  Close your browser and locate the newly saved file on your PC Desktop.
11.)  Accept the "License Agreement.  Click "Install".
12.)  When the installation is complete, restart your computer.
13.)  After your computer restarts, delete the service pack update file from your desktop.
