GENERAL
Solar activity was moderate during the week. The GOES background was at around the C1 level, and SXT recorded more than 10 runs of the flare table.
SXT TECHNICAL
No problems for the S/C. Since 9-Aug., however, we have had trouble with the operation supporting system at Kagoshima Space Center. Unfortunately, it is currently summer holidays in Japan, staff are not available until 16-Aug. This trouble has forced us to use the 34m-antenna instead of the usual 20m antenna, with only high-priority commands like OP/OG write and STT timer set. As the result, SXT table uploads will be cancelled at least until 16-Aug. Moreover, the arrival of daily data from KSC to the Sirius database will be delayed by at least one day.
SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010810.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html This week's nugget looks back at the actvity shown by NOAA active region 9544, during its disk passage on 10-23 July, 2001. Although it produced no large flares as recorded in the event reports from NOAA, SXT observed at least four erupted events which were followed by a significant CME and/or structural change of the nearby helmet streamers.

SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 33 (13-Aug-01 through 19-Aug-01)
Due to the trouble in ground-based system at KSC, described above, no new table will be uploaded at least until 16th.
Friday AM 16-Aug-01 19:36 3 010816 P3 ARS1 STD* Saturday AM 17-Aug-01 17:53 2 010817 P2 ARS1 STD*
The date part of a table ID reflects the UT date of pass 1. A '*' means that the UT date of pass 1 differs from the JST date of the pass in question. This table plan is likely to change. Prepare for last minute changes.
Continuing requests:
KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).
KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
