Polar caps defined by field lines tangential to light cylinder.

For the sake of simplicity, the diagram illustrates the axisymmetric case for this model.
The source of the radiation is localized near the magnetic poles and the emission mechanism must be such as to produce a narrow beam along the magnetic field. Note that the polar caps are defined by the magnetic field lines which lie tangential to the light cylinder.
