I am currently working as part of the Survey Science Centre, which is
tasked with producing some of the data analysis software for the X-ray
Multi-Mirror mission (due for launch in August 1999). I am managing the
development of data reduction software for the Optical Monitor instrument, and
I am also involved with the implementation of an ambitious optical follow-up
and identification programme.
I was a postdoctoral research assistant in the School of Physics and Astronomy
at the University of St. Andrews. I worked with Ron Hilditch on O star
binaries, primarily determining fundamental parameters from high quality
spectra and photometry. We also studied a Wolf-Rayet+O star system using
spectropolarimetry. All the research on O stars has now been published (see
here for more details).
I spent three years at UCL producing my PhD thesis on `Spectropolarimetry as
a probe of stellar winds', supervised by Ian Howarth. My research dealt primarily with luminous, massive stars (O supergiants and Wolf-Rayets) and symbiotic binaries. Some of this work
is detailed on my research page, while much of
the science has been published in refereed journals (see my publication list).
I was an undergraduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy
of University College London. I graduated with a degree in Astronomy in 1991.
