Bring co-ordination of ground-based and other observatories into remit of SFG Need to discuss which GT programmes will have PATT (or other) time applied for. Action on EMP to organise special SFG meeting for this. Not necessary for this PATT deadline. |

Discuss group’s research profile and overall strategy at next SFG meeting. MSC has suggested holding RAS meeting / another meeting at MSSL? Where possible, set up collaborations with, say US groups. Need to nurture ideas – more conference attendance, more visits to other institutions. JPDM to sort out GT cluster meeting. Web profile to be kept up. Discuss strategy again at next meeting. |
EMP, JPDM |
2.01 |
SOC is favouring use of SUN/Solaris as operating platform, so need to discuss conversion. Do we continue with alphas or change to Solaris? Need to evaluate and beta-test SAS on alphas asap.
Also, 02 software support longest on Solaris which is an important factor. Need to set up ‘team’ to test software under very different scientific applications. First official beta release is not until mid November so can’t check out this version thoroughly. But need to check for fundamental alpha-specific problems as soon as possible with the existing software. So 3 phases –
Item 1. is urgent – needs completion asap. KOM to ask PSW for 1. Item 2. want to make sure software runs on the alphas. Need to progress with 1. and 2. as soon as possible before we can make a decision about possible conversion to Solaris. Process is –
GTBR, MJP and IS to check OM and MSSL RGS tasks as soon as possible. Report back first meeting in October. |
