National Science Week 2006

- Hollywood Science with Dr. Jonathan Hare

Each year MSSL holds a science festival for National Science Week called 'The Sky is NO Limit!'. This year the host venue is Sutton Grammar School in Sutton, Surrey.

As part of the event we are holding an evening science show on March 14th 2006 where Dr. Jonathan Hare will present 'Hollywood Science: how realistic is the science in the movies? Could the science really be done or is it just Hollywood Science!'

There will also be space activities for children and a night sky observing session run by the Croydon Astronomical Society. Doors open at 6.30pm and the talk will start at 7.00pm.

The evening is suitable for all ages and is free. However, due to the capacity of the venue we are distributing tickets. If you would like a free ticket for the evening event please send a stamped addressed envelope to (or ring):

Dr. Jonathan Hare is a scientist with a difference. He worked with the team at Sussex University who produced "Buckyball" Buckminsterfullerene and which led to the Nobel prize for Sir Harry Kroto, Richard Smalley and Robert Curl. Jonathan is also inventor and makes a new gadget once a week! If Jonathan looks familiar to you it is because he regularly appears on TV talking about science. You may have seen him on the BBC programmes Rough Science or even Hollywood Science where he recreates the science from the movies to see if the daredevil stunts could really happen or not!
