Instrument Design

The SCS configuration is a pair of CCD camera's and filter wheels. Each camera contains the following components:
  • Filter wheel assembly (12 filters, stepper motor, gear, housing and dust wiper blade) - built by MSSL
  • Camera objective lens  and camera head (mechanical interface plate, CCD & associated electronics) - provided by Space-X, Switzerland. Camera optics built by Fisba Optik AG, Switzerland and electronics by 3DPlus, France
Additionally, DEM generation from stereo image pairs is performed by Joanneum Research, Austria and FM camera calibration was performed at SIRA Electro Optics of Chislehurst, Kent. Software modelling of the lander, robot arm and PAW motion relative to the DEM is performed by the Department of Computer Science of the University of Aberystwyth.
